Good news from Blu-ray Disc Association, the group working on the super-expected next generation discs. The development team has finally completed the specification of Blu-ray disc format, and already started licensing BD-ROM, BD-RE, BD-R.
BDA announced (Jan 2) that the specifications of BD-R and BR-RE2.0 were completed on December 26, 2005. Well, we didn’t know :) or – at least – I didn’t.
By the way, Blu-ray disks using the specifications of single layer (25GB) and double layer (50GB) of BD will join the market starting from Spring. Yahoo!!!
January 6, 2006
Samsung is working on a new Blu Ray player, the BD-1000.
Misteries of the market…
It’s going to ship this spring (United States only).
What does it mean?
Simple… Probably, PS3 will NOT be released in the Spring.
Let’s cross fingers…
Oh yeah! International Ces (consumer electronics show) 2006! What did you expect? A real PS3 in action? Mmm… some extra-exciting trailer? News about the controller? Well… you’ll be glad to know that…
There was nothing :). Well… almost nothing.
Everyone is hungry for news about next-generation (that – since Xbox 360 came out – can be considered actual-generation).
What a big disappointment.
American TG Daily reported that Sony representatives denied that any sort of PS3 announcement would be made at CES. If true, this means that while the PS3 will be at CES, you shouldn’t expect any new information regarding launch titles, launch date, or estimated price.
Also, a Sony’s PlayStation representative denied that the company would be making any PlayStation 3 related announcements at CES 2006.
“Although we are participating in many CES activities with Sony, we have no new announcements on PlayStation 3 planned at this time.” Sony Corporation has planned special announcements on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, that will probably involve the PS3.
BTW, Sony has already launched their Official CES Site. Zillions of visits, naturally.
:( and no tasteful news for PS3 Fanboys. Well… they don’t need any to be happy.
But… Wait! We have something new.
In example, the Sony Developer Kit that’s going to come out:
Sony has shipped over 4,000 development kits to the developers according to Sony’s announcement on CES 2006. It is good to know this fact. Hope we could see some great lineups soon.
And..? Yeah! Blu Ray and HD Dvd discs’ case design! Yahoo! Exciting! Wowie!
In facts, through all the rumors about CES 2006, we managed to find out images representing the case design for both disc formats.
The Blu Ray’s case is a semitransparent plastic one, with blue (did u guess it?) color and the Blu-ray logo on the top.
The HD-DVD’s case is semitransparent plastic as well, coloured in red and with the HD DVD logo on the top.
Well… we have differences in logos and colors, and that’s all.
Here are images of the blu ray cases:
But who knows… Maybe they still have some hidden surprise in their CES bag…

Our dear, super-hated, extra-discussed PS3 boomerang controller has a new card to play: Ergonomics!
Well, it’s so obvious! This controller is so ugly that if it wasn’t Anti-Ergonomic as well it would be 100% trash!
Some of the possible boomerang advantages are explained in the animated gif (click the black thumbnail to see it, it’s quite big) published by Joistiq.
And no… if you throw it’s not coming back :)
November 18, 2005
We’ve read an article on SPOnG giving out interesting PS3 news.
Were you scared about the bad boomerang banana? (Talking about the Playstation 3 Controller as usual, of course).
Well.. it was just a joke! You children, You always believe everything :)
The definitive design of the controller is going to be unveiled (maybe) at January’s Consumer Electronics Show.
The story so far: A Sony representative told GameSpot, “We have made no announcements regarding the PS3 controller, so any reports to the contrary are purely speculation.”
It’s pretty true. People always has to talk, talk and talk about things they are waiting for, and they (well, I’m one of them maybe :) ) get easily tricked. The boomerang controller could even be a fake, who knows?
Well, Sony has shown it at E3 2005, so I’m still worried about it :) why showing things that are not final? Did they want to create a lot of interest around the playstation 3 controller? To analyze gamers’ reaction? Who knows.
Let’s say it was a test judge public’s reaction to the controller, and as it was a disaster it became unofficial until next event :).
But wait! Sony Comp. Ent. and. corp. exec. and. chief. tech. off. (lol) Masayuki Chatanai told our Famitsu friends about the E3, and we find out than:
…the controller might undergo “minor changes” but that the form factor would probably stay the same!
So, that controller wasn’t official. But its shape (its worst part) is already truth. No revolutionary design. No way out. We’ll use it to catch kangaroos :)

Blu Ray discs with their enormous storage capacity, should it be 25, 30, 100 or 200 gb (yeah, the web is full of funny rumors about 200 gb Blu Rays), is catching Hollywood’s attention. It could become a new standard for high-resolution contents.
We’ll have cinema at home… and our Playstation 3 will probably be our favourite player!
David Mercer, Principal Analyst at Strategy Analytics, recently said: “For all the talk of a unified digital home, deep divisions still remain; Billions of dollars of revenue are at stake as PC companies battle with the consumer electronics industry for control of the digital home media server. DVD’s replacement will play a critical role in determining the success or failure of each group.”.
This highlights without any doubt next generation consoles’ great role in many media sectors; and, personally, I’m pretty sure the Playstation 3 will dominate thanks to Blu Ray. There is just no comparison with DVDs.
It’s just about standardization. DVDs are compatible with almost everything and capable to hold a sufficient amount of data for almost every application. But Blu Ray Cds are another planet!
PS3, as every Playstation (Sony) product, moves faster. It just moves faster. While XBox 360 will be 2006’s best console, Playstation 3 will be 2010’s best console, even if it comes out next year :)

So, do You really think the XBox 360 controller is more beautiful than the PS3’s? Maybe :)
What’s interesting about it is that it’s going to be compatible with home PCs.
“Gamers can simply unplug their controller from their Xbox 360 system and plug it into their Windows XP-based PC,” said mr. Chris Donahue (microsoft gaming dept. director). “This is a great breakthrough for the gaming industry as we make it easier for developers to create multiplatform titles.”
Ok, we won’t make more publicity to Micro****. But, just in case you would like to use the xBox 360 pad on a ps3, (oh yeah, ps3 is a pc, didn’t u know? :D) keep this in mind.
Then, you might be interested in this article, it’s like someone already did it :P
