Playstation 3 Boomerang Controller: it’s Ergonomic

Posted in Accessories, General, news & rumors at 11:30 pm by playstation3

Our dear, super-hated, extra-discussed PS3 boomerang controller has a new card to play: Ergonomics!

Well, it’s so obvious! This controller is so ugly that if it wasn’t Anti-Ergonomic as well it  would be 100% trash!

Some of the possible boomerang advantages are explained in the animated gif (click the black thumbnail to see it, it’s quite big) published by Joistiq.

And no… if you throw it’s not coming back :)

(Probably…)

Do You hate PS3 Fanboys?

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:02 pm by playstation3

Seems like a lot of Fanboys targeted my bLog, adding comments as “YEAHHH PS3 IS BETTER XBOX SUCKS” or similar.

Now, In many communities (including Official Playstation boards) they don’t like Playstation 3 Fanboys, apparently ruining conversations and teasing people.

By one side I have no advantage in deleting those comments, free words for Search Engines.

By the other, I want to preserve my contents’ quality.

So, the question is:

Should I delete PS3 Fanboys’ comments?

Videogames Violence. Most violent games?

Posted in General, news & rumors at 8:25 am by playstation3

Family Media Guide published its 2005’s Top Ten list of most Violent Video Games.

Videogames Violence is an extra-popular issue, sometimes taken very seriously (here in Rome we’ve  problems with the Vatican censoring our games and movies.. blaah).

Anyway, results are interesting. Let’s see :)

  • Resident Evil 4 – You are a Special Forces agent sent to recover the President’s kidnapped daughter. Just after the first minutes of Resident Evil 4 gameplay, it’s possible to find the corpse of a woman pinned up on a wall — by a pitchfork through her face. Yeech!
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – Player is a crazy guy working with gangsters to become respected. He kills, steals, destruct through a variety of missions. An example of violence? He  recovers his health by visiting prostitutes then his funds by beating them to death and taking their money. He has total freedom to create as much chaos as he wants, as it’s not requested to follow the game’s storyline.
  • God of War – Player becomes a rough, bloody warrior, seeking revenge against the gods who tricked him into murdering his own family. Prisoners are burned alive and player can use “finishing moves? to kill opponents – like tearing a victim in half.
  • Narc – Player can choose between two narcotics agents attempting to take a dangerous drug off the streets and shut down the KRAK cartel while being subject to temptations including drugs and money. To enhance abilities, player takes drugs including pot, Quaaludes, ecstasy, LSD and “Liquid Soul? – which provides the ability to kick enemies’ heads off.
  • Killer 7 – Player takes control of seven assassins who must combine skills to defeat a band of suicidal, monstrous terrorists. The game eventually escalates into a global conflict between the U.S. and Japan. Player collects the blood of fallen victims to heal himself and must slit own wrists to spray blood to find hidden passages.
  • The Warriors – Based on a 70’s action flick that set new standards for “artistic violence,? a street gang battles its way across NYC in an attempt to reach its home turf. Player issues several commands to his gang, including “mayhem,” which causes the gang to smash everything in sight.
  • 50 Cent: Bulletproof – Game is loosely based on the gangster lifestyle of rapper Curtis “50 Cent? Jackson. Player engages in gangster shootouts and loots the bodies of victims to buy new 50 Cent recordings and music videos.
  • Crime Life: Gang Wars – Player is the leader of a ruthless street gang, spending time fighting, recruiting new gangsters, fighting, looting, and of course, more fighting. Player can roam the streets and fight or kill anyone in sight for no apparent reason.
  • Condemned: Criminal Origins – Player is an FBI serial killer hunter in one of the first titles for the Xbox 360. Game emphasizes the use of melee weapons over firearms, allowing players to use virtually any part of their environment as a weapon. The next generation graphics provide a new level of detail to various injuries, especially “finishing moves”. Fatality!!!
  • True Crime: New York City – Player is a NYC cop looking for information regarding the mysterious death of a friend. Player can plant evidence on civilians and shake them down to earn extra money.

Playstation 3: Reality Synthesizer?

Posted in General, news & rumors, Press Reviews, Uncategorized at 11:29 am by playstation3

(Source: IGN)

[…]

Sony has opted for a more Nintendo-like role for the WPC Expo, having a presence through a key note speech given by Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi. At the keynote, Kutaragi discussed the PS3 and how it will help to create a digital future.

Today’s new buzzword, introduced by Kutaragi during his speech, is “Reality Synthesis.” Kutaragi used this term (he said it in English) to describe what he feels is the core of the Playstation 3: “creating a real time world in real time.”

Kutaragi also tossed out many of the concepts Sony’s been using in tandem with the Playstation 3 since the start, from home servers to interconnected CELL processors. The CELL will allow for multiple streams of noise-free high definition video with a wide dynamic range and high frame rate. Using a home server featuring multiple CELL processors, you’ll be able to download contents from the internet using high speed connections and up convert it in real time before playing on the PS3. And so on….

Review:

I don’t know exactly why, but I missed this article from IGN :)

“creating a real time world in real time.”

This horrifies me. We already have a real time world in real time. What should we do with a digital one? Will ps3 allow us to eat pizza and spaghetti and enjoy them as real ones? Or will we have sex through a Playstation 3?

Why doesn’t Mr. Kutaragi just say “our games will tell incredible, original, exciting stories merged with an incredible graphical context” more than “we’ll create a virtual world”?

That’s what I hate about japanese (but, let’s say it, worldwide) videogames business. A lot of technology to hypnotize us, but few interest in making our souls a little richer.

300 gb HVD Storage Unit Announced

Posted in General, news & rumors at 10:13 am by playstation3

Hdv_dvd_490611g

Here it is. A yellow one, finally, it looks nice!

It’s Maxell last creation, a new storage medium, coming out next year.
Generated by InPhase Technologies, this little piece of wonder is called HVD, meaning “Holographic Versatile Disc “.
Holographic, mmm… this sounds strange. Why “holographic”?! Is it supposed to  contain Holographies’ data? An official medium for the super-next generation 3d cinema?
Well… as you guessed from the article’s title, it can handle 300GB of data, to be transfered at 20 MegaBytes per second. Later, it should achieve 1.6TB (!!!) (TeraByte, 1,600 GB) storage capacity and 120MBps bandwidth transfer rate.
Those disks will have an usage life of about 50 years, vs 20-100 years (nobody knows it exactly :)) for the old, good CD-RW.
Ok, now that we’ve read this thing, PS3’s Blu-Ray discs are starting to look weird. They are old :P let’s implement HVD immediately! Just kidding.
Microsoft XBox 360’s DVD has “only” 9gb storage capacity, and IMHO it’s more than enough. It’s what you put inside that makes the difference…

This character is quite goth. Quite dark. Quite bad. The latin name of this chapter means “Eye of resurrection”… mmm… and “The embrace of time”… well, cute names :)
